When the Towers Fell: Cape Author’s Experience Told Through Bikeman
September 9, 2021 @ 4:00 pmFree
To honor the 20th anniversary of 9/11, please join Hyannis Public Library for an exhibition and reading event, featuring Thomas Flynn’s Bikeman and a gallery from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum that will be on display in the Library.
Local journalist and longtime Cape Cod resident Thomas Flynn will give a virtual talk on his personal experience in New York that day and read selections from his epic poem, Bikeman. Hear his story, trapped in the basement of one of the towers 20 years ago with his bike.
From Andrews McMeel Publishing, “In 2001, the world watched in shock and horror as the terrorist attacks on 9/11 shook the United States and ushered in a new era of history. After the North Tower was struck, Thomas F. Flynn, journal in hand, hastily rode toward the blazing tower, unaware of the impending second attack and ensuing chaos. Flynn recounts the events that immediately followed the attacks on the World Trade Center with the detail of a journalist and the lyricism of a poet.”
The virtual event will take place on Zoom, Thursday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m. Registration will be required to attend. Zoom event links will be sent to registrants the day of the event.
Patrons interested in following along will be able to purchase signed copies of the book in the Hyannis Public Library, graciously supplied by Titcomb’s Bookshop in Sandwich, MA. Ask a librarian for more information and to purchase a copy of the book from their shop, online, or in the Hyannis Public Library.
